Every parent wants their child to lead a happy, healthy and active youth. There is no better place for this than introducing your child to surf lifesaving and 'Nippers'.
Nippers is a junior program that introduces children aged 6 to 13 to surf lifesaving, and teaches lessons and skills allowing them to continue in lifesaving and sport as they grow older.
A child may join Nippers as soon as he/she turns 6 years of age, but not before. Nippers are divided into 8 age groups. Age is determined as at midnight on 30th September each year. i.e. if a child is 10 years of age on or before 30th September, they will be in the under 11 age group for the entire season.
The Floreat Cadet program is conducted for 14 to 17 year olds. The Cadet program is conducted concurrently with the Nipper program on a Sunday morning.
The Cadet program aims to develop youth involvement in the Surf Club through facilitating participation and achievement in the spectrum of SLSA awards and proficiencies. At Floreat, these can include:
Swimming proficiency is conducted at the beginning of every season, prior to the junior program commencing. Each child must be proficient for their age group in order to participate in water based activities.
Children in the Under 7 age group do not enter the water past their knees and do not have to perform a proficiency swim.
