Bronze Medallion

Course Introduction

All surf lifesavers in Western Australia complete their training through their local Surf Life Saving club for the Surf Life Saving Australia Bronze Medallion.

The Bronze course is usually run over a period of six to eight weeks, involving both theory and practical sessions conducted at the candidates local Surf Life Saving Club. The final assessment may take place at a centralised location in conjunction with other Surf Clubs.

The Bronze Medallion is aligned to the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) qualification. Members can gain this qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning process. Contact Surf Life Saving WA for more information on this.

During the Final Assessment for the above award, candidates will be required to demonstrate the following:

  • 200m Run - 200m Swim - 200 Run in under 8:00 minutes
  • Demonstrate radio operations
  • Demonstrate basic first aid
  • Demonstrate 10 signals
  • Demonstrate lifts and carries
  • Demonstrate board and tube rescues
  • Demonstrate spinal management
  • Demonstrate resuscitation and defibrillation
