The Floreat Surf Life Saving has over 300 members spanning from 7 years of age to 70. These people come from all walks of life to train, patrol, compete and enjoy the family atmosphere that exists on one of the finest beaches on the west coast. The Surf Club has a heritage of over 60 years but today it is a reflection of the energy of its current members which have established it as one of the most progressive in Western Australia. Our principle objective is to provide surf life saving services to the community and to educate and promote surf safety. Why not come down one weekend and introduce yourself to a great bunch of people. You don't have to be a fantastic swimmer, all you need is enthusiasm. You could not have asked for better conditions on the beach at Fremantle last Sunday for our first Local Area Carnival. The kids looked great in their Floreat gear and the blue, red and yellow “war paint”. It was a sign of things to come! From the time they did their warm up run they looked, behaved and competed incredibly well. It was great to see them having so much fun and cheering each other on. It was also fantastic to have other club officers and directors come up and mention how great it was to see Floreat at the carnival and how well they performed. A big thank you to the Age Managers, Officials, Water Safety and the many parents who came down and helped. But it was the kids that made us all feel so incredibly proud… well done guys! I would also like to mention a special thank you to Craig McIntyre and the other Age Managers and parents who kept the u7’s to U10’s busy back at Floreat. A great team effort overall! |

The WA winner of this year’s scholarship is our very own Jeff Ibbotson. The Sir Adrian Curlewis Scholarship is a national program designed to build leadership skills, knowledge, and highlight the potential in young Australians who choose to pursue leadership roles in surf lifesaving at club, branch, state and national level. The program provides candidates with an environment within which they can discover their leadership potential under the guidance and mentoring of active leaders in surf lifesaving. This scholarship provides the recipients with a 12-month structured mentoring program through a 'contract learning agreement'. In addition, scholars are given the opportunity to develop and build relationships with key state staff and members through the completion of a state based project. Further to this, all scholars attend two high level personal development workshops which are designed to foster, nurture and develop specific leadership competencies. Congratulations Jeff, this is well deserved! |
